Dance Dance Dance

What‘s it like to dance?

Ancient Japanese dancing is a sacred function that was devoted to a invisible something strong, who is a deity, by young women.

Dancing was a celebration for the deity, on the other hand dancers received vitality from the deity.

Well I’ll talk about nowadays.
Have you ever read works written by Haruki Murakami?
He is the most famous Japanese novel writer, his popular works are A wild sheep chase, Norwegian wood, The windup chronicle bird, 1Q84 and “Dance Dance Dance”.
Last year the winner of the Nobel prize for literature was Kazuo Ishiguro, who is British by nationality but  with Japanese blood. Meanwhile Haruki Murakami has always been the premiere folk candidate of the Nobel prize for literature in Japan.
At one time I asked some foreigners who had worked in a English conversation firm whether they knew Haruki Murakami. About one third of them have read his books. They said they loved his works but these were not easy to understand.
Actually his every work has a fantastic story with difficulty. I think there are three reasons.
The first is that his stories are built by double sets of a literal real world and a virtual world in a hero’s mind by crossing each other.
The second is the helplessness in the hero’s heart and the transformations from its helplessness. The transformations are acceptance of reality, stepping forward with a chilled heart or commitment for himself.
What is the helplessness which is depicted by Haruki Murakami? My idea is that the helplessness is the wreckage of the individuality in a human which  is made by modern society.
Modern society has a strong so-called public. And the public built by strong universality has eliminated the people’s autonomy.
Modern society which needs the universality and the trust has built hierarchy systems. Nonetheless, many people who have gentle but fragile hearts love a distributed society linked by equal relationship subconsciously.
A hierarchy system is stronger than a distributed society economically and politically. Finally the public which is in a hierarchy system has suppressed people.
Of course you know, a person with a gentle but fragile heart written by Haruki Murakami is you.
Murakami‘s many stories were influenced by the period of 1970 to 1995 in Tokyo. The period was the most powerful peak of Japanese public hierarchical societies at every turn . However after the period distributed systems began spreading under the hierarchy. On the other view point a new horizon with a circulatory society is coming. Japan in the 21st century has been mixing the two systems. It is similar with the transformations in the stories of Murakami.
The third is music in the story.
For example Norwegian wood that is the song of The Beatles has a significant meaning for the story of “Norwegian wood”.
Many music, which are jazz, classic, rock or fusion, add accents to any situations in the story and move the story to a new stage.
Real urban Japan is occasionally beautiful and dark, occasionally gorgeous and poor, occasionally chilled and hot, or occasionally cool and worthless, and occasionally a man or a sheep man. It is mysteriously attractive.
In other words Japan is The Wonderland of antinomy, particularly for western people.
Moreover I think Japan is the top runner to the goal of the circulatory society.
When Japan is transformed into the new horizon with peace, so will the world.
“Dance Dance Dance” is the order for people from Murakami in order to step forward among the complex society. Dancing is the exchange of energy between a human and the cosmos. Through dancing you’ll revive your vitality, and then you can raise your individuality up.
Dance to your favorite music!
If you have a gentle heart, dance in Japan.
Dance in Tokyo with your hope.
Dance in Kanazawa with love.
When you give gentleness, compassion or love, so does Japan ever more.
Dance, Dance, Dance!
